Renewed and reopened on November 26, 2023.
With the concept of “Nothingness,” the entire bathhouse has been renovated into a chic space where you can forget your daily life and fully relax. The open-air bath features hot water (with a powerful jet), and the indoor area offers four types of baths: a medium-temperature deep bath, a shallow bath, and a cold bath. Inside the bathhouse, you can enjoy a relaxing time while listening to the sound of the famous “Matsunoyu Waterfall,” a beloved feature even before the renovation.
A family booth has also been installed, allowing parents and children to wash comfortably together. In the men’s open-air area, guests can enjoy an outdoor bath while admiring a painted mural created by the previous owner.
Without adding a sauna, Matsunoyu focuses on the quality of its hot water—please relax and enjoy this newly reborn bathhouse.

What part of your baths or facilities are you most proud of?
The water used at our bathhouse is natural underground water drawn from a deep well, rich in metasilicic acid and exceptionally gentle on the skin. This pure water is used throughout the facility, including for showers and faucets.

Any history or unique commitment about this bathhouse we should know?
Our bathhouse was founded in 1923 (Taisho 12) and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023 (Reiwa 5).
To mark this milestone, we carried out a large-scale renovation under the direction of sento architect Kentaro Imai.
Shinjuku Ochiai is a neighborhood deeply rooted in public bath culture, with six sento located within a 10-minute walk from our facility (as of January 1, 2024).
Given this environment, our renovation aimed to create a space where local residents can experience a true sense of relaxation through the everyday presence of a public bath.
